 Abstract:  Teatro Libertad was a Chicano street theater group that was founded in 1975 in Tucson, Arizona. Over the course of 10 years, it produced a number of plays and skits, performing them in a variety of places, from cotton fields to local neighborhood centers to international theater festivals. The group worked collectively to write their own material. Their focus was on issues affecting the Mexican American community and the working class. The material included in this collection is comprised primarily of original scripts, photographs, publicity, news articles and organizational documents.

 Abstract:  Scrapbook containing chiefly photoengraved portraits; some original engravings are also present. Also included are press reviews which describe plays in New Orleans and San Francisco in which Couldock, and his daughter Eliza Couldock, performed. Two letters are present. One from 1862 refers to the London appearance of E.A. Sothern as Lord Dundreary; the other, from 1871, was written to Couldock from the actress Charlotte Cushman. The portraits cover a broad spectrum of famous people, particularly rulers, statesmen, military leaders, the nobility, and authors. Others included are actors and actresses, musicians, scientists, artists, and explorers.

 Abstract:  Black Sparrow Press was a small independent publishing house focused on avant-garde literature. Produced by John and Barbara Martin, with the help of typographer and printer Graham Mackintosh, the Press was responsible for drawing attention to Charles Bukowski and his literary work. Each published title includes correspondence from authors, layout matter and artwork, ephemera, photographs, manuscripts, proofs, and first editions. Black Sparrow Press published a number of American and English authors including Diane Wakoski, Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Creeley, Charles Olson, John Fante, Gerard Malanga, Wanda Coleman, and acquired publication rights for Wyndham Lewis and D. H. Lawrence.

 Abstract:  Contains correspondence, diaries, articles, stories, clippings, memorabilia, photographs, and translations of mostly unpublished works by Spanish-language writers. Some of the authors are Concha Espina de Serna, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, Jose Maria Carretero, Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, Gregorio Martinez Sierra, Rafael Delgado, Pedro Juan Labarthe, Jose Lopez- Portillo y Rojas, Emilia Pardo-Bazan, Jose Echegaray and Eduardo Zamacois. Personal material consists of correspondence and family photographs, from marriage to Charles Fletcher Lummis, and later to Courtenay DeKalb, with whom she operated the Roadside Mine in Arizona. Photographs and correspondence related to the mine are present. Also included are typescripts of Douglas' published and unpublished articles, stories, and translations. Original drawings are by E.A. Burbank and Carl Oscar Borg. Correspondence with friends and publishers includes writers Eugene Rhodes, Henry Knibbs, Concha Espina, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, José María Carretero, Pedro Labarthe, Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, and the publisher Phoebe Hearst. Diaries and photographs document travels to Mexico and Europe. Stories were recorded by Douglas while she lived among the Isleta Indians. Mexican and U.S. newspapers, 1911-1915, report on the Mexican Revolution. Related material in MS 39 and MS 297.
