Biographical note

Clay Young McCulloch, Jr. was born in Durango, Colorado on March 14, 1924. He graduated from Durango High School in 1941, before serving in the US Army in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II. Later he graduated from Colorado A & M (BS), University of Idaho (MA), and Oklahoma State University (PhD). He worked on various research assignments related to water, vegetation, and animal management for the Arizona Game and Fish Department for 35 years. His earlier employment included the US Forest Service in Colorado, Arizona, Wymoing, and Utah and the Colorado Fish and Game Department.

Scope and Content

Research files pertaining to the members of the original John Wesley Powell survey, as well as materials pertaining to wildlife and habitat living along the Powell route. Materials include reports, articles, diaries, bulletins, field notes, maps, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and personal research notes. Many of the correspondence and research were between McCulloch and Dove Menkes.

"Return to Little Hollywood" (DVD) has been sent to the library media collection. Microfilm reels of Stephen Jones diaries; Almon H. Thompson diaries, 1871-1874; and Frederick Dellenbaugh journal, 1871-1873 have been transferred to the library's microform collection.
