The American Association of University Professors is a national organization, founded in 1915, to support and advocate for academic freedom and tenure. Dr. Oliver F. Sigworth, who collected these materials, was on the faculty of the Dept. of English at the University of Arizona and was secretary of the Executive Committee of the A.A.U.P. Arizona Chapter.
Minutes, reports, newsletters, correspondence, and chapter letters concerning the Arizona Chapter of the A.A.U.P. and business and labor concerns of university professors mostly in the 1950s and 1960s. Includes organization material related to the case of Dr. MacEwan and censure of the University of Arizona administration by the national office of the American Association of University Professors in 1964. There is also material about an issue with the NAACP Tucson branch when Somalia students were denied housing, discussion of whether the R.O.T.C. should be voluntary, Barbara Elfbrandt's refusal to sign the state loyalty oath, and an Arizona State legislature bill to control campus speakers.
