Biographical Note

Carol Gail Osman was born in Schenectady, New York in 1941. She lived in New York City as a child and moved to Phoenix, Arizona in about 1961. After finishing high school, she worked as a stringer for the Prescott Courier and the Arizona Republic in addition to working as a counselor at a Girl Scout camp in Groom Creek so that she could pursue her love of horseback riding. During her time as a counselor, she also met her future husband, James C. "Bing" Brown. The couple eventually married and had two sons, Jim and Bryan.

Brown earned her B.A. in Mass Communication at Arizona State University in 1963 while working as a feature writer, reporter, columnist, and photographer for the Phoenix Gazette (1961-1965). She went on to serve as a public relations account executive for John S. Turner & Associates (1965-1966) and Kenneth G. Patton Agency (1966-1968) before she began teaching journalism. During her career, she taught at Phoenix College (1974), Scottsdale Community College (1978), Rio Salado Community College (1984-), and Arizona State University (1988-2000). She also edited "The Advertising Dentist" (1983-1986), the "Kleisley-Cole PR Report" (1984-1986), Changing Homes Magazine (1986-1988), "HealthLinks" (1994-), and Phoenix Rising Magazine (1998); published Arizona Marketplace for Writers and Photographers (1990); and worked extensively as a freelance writer and photographer.
