Biographical Note

Ruby Ethel Bowers was born at Limestone Prairie, Oklahoma on April 19, 1903, the daughter of John DeWitt Bowers and Tilitha "Letha" Anderson. She was one of eight children, including Ola Pearl (Bowers) Johnston (1894-1963), Nora Edna (Bowers) Bartlett (1896-1982), William Polk Bowers (1904-1907), John DeWitt Bowers (1906-1964), Fred Edward Bowers (1912-1981), Jewel Elizabeth Bowers (1916-1916), and Stella Mildred (Bowers) Carney (1918-2000). The family moved to the Arizona Territory in 1904 and lived in a number of locations in the state, leaving briefly for visits to Oregon and Washington State.

Ruby Bowers graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1921 and also attended the Gregg Commercial School. She married Robert Clair McAndrew in 1929 and the couple settled in Phoenix. Ruby McAndrew worked at the Indian Tuberculosis Sanitarium and at the Indian General Hospital from 1949 to 1974. In 1974, Ruby and her husband relocated to Prescott, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary there in 1979. Robert McAndrew died in 1982 and Ruby McAndrew followed in 2007.
