Biographical Note

John W. Weatherford was raised in the town of Weatherford, Texas, and went to school at Weatherford College, both of which were named after his father. Weatherford moved to Arizona in 1885, first living in Globe, Arizona. He arrived in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1886. He is perhaps best remembered for having built the hotel in downtown Flagstaff which bears his name, the Weatherford Hotel. However, building the hotel was not his only enterprise; he built several local buildings and in 1926 opened the toll road, the San Francisco Mountain Boulevard, to the public. Weatherford died in Phoenix in 1934.
