Biographical Note
Joseph (Joe) Dienes, a mail handler from Westbrook, Maine, first came to the southwest in
1979 as an airman stationed at Luke AFB in Arizona. As his love for the southwest grew, so
did his sense of adventure. In June of 2005, Joe experienced his first Colorado River rafting
trip with the river outfitters, Canyoneers, Inc. He has since participated in several rafting
adventures including this 2008 Grand Canyon river trip with the historic, restored Nevills
cataract boat- the "Sandra" and the boat's owner and river guide, Greg Reiff. This particular
trip included nineteen crew and passengers, three 18 foot Avon oar powered inflated rafts,
one motorized pontoon boat and the "Sandra".
Scope and Content
The images in this collection provide a visual record of the hike down to the river via
Bright Angel Trail in addition to the boats, beaches, white water rapids, and passengers and
crew of the Best of the Grand Canyon, July, 2008 river rafting trip down the Colorado River.
Arrangement
The CD images and online images are arranged chronologically.
