Historical note

The Flagstaff Festival of the Arts started in 1965 and until 1979 was known as the Flagstaff Summer Festival. The festival hosted a large variety of music, dance, art and theater productions at Northern Arizona University and city venues. The festival became a summer destination for visitors from around the United States because of the quality of performances and the beautiful Flagstaff summer climate. Many celebrities performed at the festival including notable opera stars, screen and stage actors and musicians from various symphony orchestras.

Scope and Content

This collection includes music and stage production flyers, fund raising correspondence, organizational working papers, schedules, publicity announcements and budgetary meeting minutes. The years represented are 1965 through 1979 with the last box containing various schedules and flyers from the 1960s through the 1990s.
