Historical Note

Joe Larson was an immigrant from Sweden who came to America to try his luck mining in California in 1899. He arrived with $5 cash and a pistol. He gambled on both poker and land, making fortunes and then losing them many times over. In 1953 when interviewed by the Los Angeles Times he was 81 years old and living comfortably in Jerome, Arizona where he had staked many mining claims and sold them over the years to the big mining companies.


Scope and Content

This grouping consists of one box correspondence, blue prints, stock certificates, and files concerning mining in Jerome, Arizona. Includes files on Calument and Jerome Copper Company and the United Verde Extension Copper Co. Correspondence includes Lewis and James Douglas.

There are also 32 photographs/postcards of Jerome and various mining companies.
