Biographical Note

Ruth Evelyn McKinney was from Courtland, Arizona, a mining camp in Cochise County, 30 miles north of Bisbee. She attended Arizona State Teachers College in Flagstaff in 1932 where she was a secretary of Campbell Hall and was chosen Junior Beauty. She graduated with a major in Intermediate Grades from A.S.T.C. in June 1932. As of September 19, 1932 she was second grade teacher at Lincoln School, part of Nohales Public Schools. As late as 1990 Ruth McKinney was a Phoenix resident.

One of the persons she met while at A.S.T.C. (and whose portrait appears frequently throughout the collection) was Cecil L. Mulleneaux of Phoenix. Mulleneaux attended A.S.T.C. between 1929 and 1932, majoring in Physical Education and participating in football, track, and basketball. In 1931 Mulleneaux was A.S.T.C.'s star halfback. After graduation he played with a number of professional football teams: New York Giants (1932), Cincinnati (1933-1934), and with St. Louis and Pittsburgh in 1935. He was inducted into the first annual Football Hall of Fame in Phoenix on December 2, 1970. As late as 1985 Mulleneaux was a Los Angeles resident. His date of death is unknown.
