Biographical Note

Born March 30, 1909, at 215 N. Pleasant St., Prescott, Dixon Fagerberg Jr moved with his father Dixon Sr, mother Amy and his younger sisters, Louise and Jean, in 1915, to 128 N. Mount Vernon, Prescott into a house bought from Judge Richard Sloan, the last Governor of Arizona Territory. A wholesale grocer who eventually owned a warehouse on south Montezuma in downtown Prescott, Dixon Sr, first arrived in Prescott in 1902. As a youngster, Dixon Jr worked for his father at the warehouse and was a door-to-door distributor of The Literary Digest, a popular magazine in the early 1900s.

Dixon Jr attended Washington Elementary School before transferring to Page Military Academy in Los Angeles in 1921, for grades 7-8 prior to returning to Prescott where he graduated from Prescott High School in 1927, with 29 classmates. Four years later, Dixon Jr graduated from Stanford University at Palo Alto, CA with two of his high school classmates. (Stanford University Admissions Office ranked the academic performance of freshman students by the high schools from which they graduated. Among the several hundred high schools represented, Prescott High School ranked #1).

After graduating from Stanford University, Dixon Jr. began a 40-year career in public accounting. He gradually developed a state-wide practice and became well known as Arizona’s Flying CPA and management accounting expert for highway construction and mineral enterprises. Later, he became a partner in the international firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. He retired in 1971, and 12 years later authored the book Meeting the Four O’Clock Train and Other Stories Boyhood Recollections of Prescott, AZ 1909-1927 published by Sharlot Hall Museum Press in 1983.
