Biographical Note

This collection contains personal, and at times intimate, letters between Kathleen Koiner to John Hazeltine. These letters were written by Kathleen Koiner to John Hazeltine when they were both in college. Kathleen signed many of the letters using her nickname “Kaki” and addressed many of the letters to John using his pet name “Dill.” During this letter-writing period, Kathleen was attending University of Southern California, while John was enrolled at University of California at Berkley. However, John was also working in some of the mines around Prescott. The letters describe college life in the 1920s, regarding sororities, studies, activities, social life and customs, as well as Kathleen’s intense love for John “Dill” Hazeltine.
