Biographical Note

John Boyce Watkins was born in Virgina on July 26, 1888. He came to Arizona with his brother, Dr. William Warner Watkins (1883-1956), and settled in Metcalf. Watkins lived in Phoenix from 1906 until 1929, where he operated the Blue Moon Café at 1st and Adams from 1923 to 1929. He was a pioneer settler of Salome, Arizona, owning and operating the general store from 1931 until his retirement in 1954 and serving as the town's second postmaster. Watkins died in Wickenburg, Arizona on June 27, 1969. He was survived by his wife, Evelyn Esther (Jones) Watkins (1892-1980) and son, John Boyce (1925-).
