Biographical Note

Vernon Foster is a member of the Klamuth/Modac Nation and an active member of the American Indian Movement, which is dedicated to promoting and protecting Native human rights. He is recognized as a national spokesman for his community and as a motivational speaker, spiritual advisor, healer, counselor, and teacher regarding Native American issues. Foster sits on numerous national boards and has founded several charitable organizations, including Buffalo Heart Project and Red Road Journeys.


Scope and Content Note

This collection houses correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, video tapes, and other materials documenting the American Indian Movement in Arizona, the controversy surrounding Leonard Peltier, legal issues involving Native Americans in Arizona, and Vernon and Samantha Foster's pottery. This collection has not been processed in full and can be viewed only by appointment. Contact Archives and Special Collections for more information.

All materials in Series II: Accession #1999-02061A are restricted and therefore unavailable to researchers. Archives and Special Collections will restrict all access to selected textual materials that in its sole opinion may violate an individual's right to privacy and reserves the right to approve or deny videotape duplication and/or publication requests that in its sole opinion may violate an individual's right to privacy.

To view this collection, please contact Ask an Archivist or call (480) 965-4932 at least five days in advance. Appointments in the Wurzburger Reading Room at Hayden Library (rm. 138) on the Tempe campus are available Monday through Friday. Patrons can also arrange to view this collection at the Labriola National American Indian Data Center (rm. 305) at Fletcher Library on the West campus.
