W. B. [William] Woods was a cadet in the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Los Angeles, California's Manual Arts High School and the New Mexico Military Institute at the time of the First World War. He also performed in scholastic theatrical enterprises.
Edward Woods became a professional actor in the legitimate theater and in feature films in California and subsequently graduated to theatrical producing in California and New York. Their father, also W. B. Woods, was a business associate of Lloyd Henning involved in the Holbrook telephone exchange.
The Woods Family Collection contains correspondence, ephemera, news clippings, and memorabilia dating from 1914 to 1953. The majority of the materials document the scholastic and theatrical careers of two brothers, W. B. and Edward Woods.
Box 1, Folder 1 contains the claim to a mining property near Holbrook filed by Ed Woods and two partners in 1919. The correspondence consists of notes and telegrams that observe special occasions or announce the completion of travel plans. Programs, scripts, sheet music, and reviews clipped from theatrical trade magazines commemorate a few of Edward Woods' dramatic accomplishments. School newspapers and training guides highlight the experiences of the younger W. B. Woods as an Army officer candidate. The text of a speech by the elder W. B. Woods to Holbrook High School is included in the news clippings.
