Abstract:David Holladay was an aviation safety consultant and accident investigator. After retiring from the Air Force, he became head of the safety curriculum in the aerospace department at the University of Southern California. The Holladay Papers contain accident investigation case files; reference and research files; display boards used in testimony on aircraft accidents; manuals for various aircraft; and other binders of reference material (FAA publications, etc.).

Scope and Content

This collection consists of the professional library and accident investigation case files of David Haddon Holladay. Holladay created the collection in the course of his work as a consultant and accident investigator in his company Aviation Accident Prevention, Inc. (also known as Aviaction), as well as in his roles as a professor at University of Southern California and as a consultant with the International Center for Aviation Safety.

The collection includes over 5,000 aircraft investigation case files, including reports, depositions, court records, and photographs. Also included in the collection are reference files, teaching materials, and manuals and specifications for aircraft, engines, and other aircraft components.

Related Material

Holladay's collection of Miscellaneous Aircraft Crash Residue Exemplar Exhibits (i.e., aircraft parts from accident investigations, labeled for use as instructional examples) was separated from the Holladay papers. These items are now part of the teaching collection for aviation accident investigation courses in the Behavioral and Safety Sciences Department at Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus.
