Inclusive Dates: 1958-1991.
Physical Description7.5 linear feet
AbstractThe Earl F. Aldon Collection documents his scientific research with the U.S. Forest Service, primarily in the south and southwest region of the Colorado Plateau. Of particular interest is his research in the area of watershed and mines. The strength of the collection lies in Aldon’s writings. These files contain the final product as well as drafts, notes and correspondence with colleagues and co-authors. Also of great interest are the research files. Although not as extensive as the Writings of Aldon series, they contain raw data related to several mines in Four Corners area.

Biographical Note

Earl F. Aldon retired in 1994 as a supervisory research forester for the Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station and had been stationed at Albuquerque, New Mexico, for 31 years. He provided scientific support and expertise in the pinyon-juniper initiative on region three of the Forest Service. He conducted watershed, range management and reclamation research for the experiment station for forty-two years, after graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in forestry and an advanced degree in conservation. He spent most of his professional career in the Southwest and wrote over one hundred and twenty scientific publications.

Scope and Content

The Earl F.

Photograph collection consists of 35mm slides and loose photographs (some with negatives) documenting his research and experiments in the areas of watershed, range management, soil analysis, and mintes. Consists of two notebooks of 35mm slides, one box of prints (an additional box of negatives), and one oversize box of larger photographs. Most images date from the 1970s and 1980s.
