Biographical NoteGeorge Lamont Manucuso was born November 7,1954. He grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey. In the early 1980s he moved west and began doing a number of odd jobs in and around the Grand Canyon. In 1986 he started a photography company called Granite Visions. He used the proceeds from his photography to hike and explore the Grand Canyon. In 1997 Backpacker Magazinereferred to him as one of the expert hikers of the Grand Canyon. Mancuso, along with a friend, Linda Brehmer, died in a flash flood in August of 2001 Scope and Content NoteThis collection contains correspondence from Harvey Butchart to George Mancuso (the letters from George to Harvey reside in the Butchart Collection NAU.MS.168). Mancuso and Butchart were both legendary Grand Canyon trekkers and corresponded about their experiences in the Canyon.
