Biographical Note

Soroptimist International was first founded in Oakland, California, 1921. This is a worldwide volunteer service organization of professional and business women. Since 1921 over 3000 clubs throughout the world have been created. Soroptimist International includes women all throughout the world in creating a voice for women and committing to service both in local and international communities. Soroptimist International is structured under four Federations: Americas, Europe, Great Britain & Ireland, and South West Pacific, which all operate under the Soroptimist International Constitution.

Soroptimist International of Flagstaff started in 1968 and continues to be a strong organization in Flagstaff. The Flagstaff Soroptimist founded Hope’s Closet where women returning to work and need nice but inexpensive business attire can purchase some at an affordable price.

Scope and Content Note

The Soroptomist International of Flagstaff Collection is arranged in five series and includes information about meetings, events, community service, and members. There are papers concerning the organization and correspondanc between the organization and local businesses. Scrapbooks that document the organization's work throughout the years are included.
