Abstract:Louis C. Hughes, 1844-1915, was an Arizona pioneer, lawyer, newspaper publisher, and politician. Hughes established the Arizona Daily Star in 1877 and published it until his death. This collection contains scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating to Hughes' political career. Also included are various telegrams congratulating Hughes on his election to governor of Arizona.

Biographical Note

Arizona pioneer; lawyer, newspaper publisher, and politician. Hughes established the Arizona Daily Star in 1877 and published it until his death. He served as district attorney, probate judge, attorney general of Arizona, U.S. Court Commissioner, member and secretary to the Board of World's Fair Commissioners for Arizona, Governor of Arizona, 1893-1896, and chancellor of the Board of Regents, 1897-1898.
