Edward S. Merritt, probably a veteran of the Civil and Indian Wars, was related by marriage to the Ord family, well known for its distinguished military service.
Four scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating chiefly to U.S. Army and Navy activities and personnel. Volume 4 also includes articles about Native Americans in Arizona and New Mexico.
