Biographical NotePhotographer and businessman, Willis P. Haynes worked as a Tucson photographer beginning in 1886. During the 1890s, he practiced photography while also working for the census bureau, the Nogales customs office, and the U. S. District Court in Prescott. He returned to Tucson by 1898 and established a real estate and insurance office. Scope and Content NoteCabinet card photographs, ca. 1886-1900, taken by Willis P. Haynes of southern Arizona. Images include selections from a series titled “The Santa Rita Land & Mining Co., Pima County” which depict ranching activities and scenic views, and the Superintendent’s family and adobe ranch home. Also present are images of Tumacácori Mission ruins, San Xavier Mission, Tucson, Arizona, and Nogales, Arizona. Nogales scenes include the Hotel Nelson and a town view. Views of Tucson include Carrillo’s Gardens, San Agustin Church, views, Tohono O’odham women carrying hay, and Mexican-American women washing clothes.
