Biographical NoteThis collection was a gift of Anthony Boucher and contains fanzines that he collected.
Boucher was born in Oakland, CA and was an esteemed science fiction author, critic, and
editor of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and The Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy,
the latter of which he was also the co-founder. Boucher was also the author of Rocket to
the Morgue from 1942 which is widely acknowledged as a sci-fi mystery classic and the first
novel to combine the two genres. In 1946, Boucher helped establish the Mystery Writers of
America, an organization of mystery and crime writers. In 1957 and again in 1958, The Magazine
of Science Fiction and Fantasy won the Hugo Award, an annual award given for best science fiction
or fantasy works, for best professional magazine. In 1970, his short story "The Quest for Saint
Aquin" was selected as one of the best science fiction stories of all time by the Science Fiction
Writers of America. Boucher died in 1968.
