Abstract:This collection consisted of papers from Tucson resident, Brian Bateman. These include workshops and administrative documents from the Arizona Human Rights Fund, newspaper articles and clippings spanning from 1983 to 2004, information and ephemera on the Jim Toevs congressional campaign in 1991, materials from the Be True to Yourself Film Campaign in 1991, and a report on diversity and queer presence at the U of A (circa 1990). This collection is part of the Arizona Queer Archives (AQA), a community focused archive through the Institute for LGBT Studies at the University of Arizona. It was transferred to Special Collections in 2020.

Biographical Note

These papers were compiled by Brain Bateman, who has been a donor and member of numerous LGBTQ organizations. This collection contains is information and ephemera on Jim Toevs. Toevs is an openly gay man who ran for Arizona's 5th congressional district, and lost to republican incumbant Jim Kolbe.


Scope and Content Note

This collection is comprised of papers collected by Brian Bateman related to the Arizona Human Rights Fund (AHRH), an organization dedicated to protecting LGBTQ people in Arizona. In addition, this collection has materials describing a queer film campaign from 1991 titled Be True To Yourself, and a photocopied slide show on Arizona Queer Archive' Community Box Project. This collection is part of the Arizona Queer Archives (AQA), a community focused archive through the Institute for LGBT Studies at the University of Arizona. It was transferred to Special Collections in 2020.
