(1900-1942) ead | | | | Date(s): | 1878-1998 | | | | Abstract: | This collection contains materials documenting the Riggs pioneer family history from the time Brannick Riggs married Mary Elizabeth Robbins in Texas in 1856, their first wagon train move to Colorado in 1871, and several years later relocating again to southeastern Arizona, arriving and settling in Sulphur Springs Valley in 1879. Their eighth child, John Casey Riggs (1874-1943), was the family’s historian and creator of the bulk of the papers. The collection includes Our El Dorado, a biographical book written by John C. Riggs and his daughter, Jeanette Riggs Roll. and as Arizona State Senator from 1964 to 1982. His many accomplishments during his time in office include:
establishing community colleges in Mohave and Yavapai counties, aiding in the creation of five state parks,
securing funding for transportation and rural roads, and initiating legislation that helped restore the Governor’s
Mansion at the Sharlot Hall Museum. He served as the Vice Chairman, and then the Chairman, of the Senate Appropriations
Committee, Chairman of the Joint Budget Committee, and Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee. This collection
includes newspaper articles, genealogical information, Senator Tenney’s scrapbooks of news clippings from 1965, the

newspaper clippings, and other business and personal papers. Includes blueprints of
maps, time books and expense accounts, and photographs of Clarkston and the Ajo
Mining District. Also present are family photographs, subscription lists of
