Richmond Jones (1833-1861) while working for the Sopori Land and Mining Company
in the Santa Cruz Valley of Arizona. The diary describes his journey from Rhode
Island to Tucson, Arizona and offer insights on individuals and mining
activities in southern Arizona until his sudden death at the hands of Apaches,
in the field, in 1861. Includes account books, letters, survey books and
documents, as well as a report on the Sopori and San Xavier mines by mining
engineer Raphael Pumpelly (1837-1923) who was in charge of the Santa Rita Mine

This collection is comprised of photographs taken during the extensive travels of Anna Ransier, a Baptist missionary, and her husband Hubert during the 1920’s and 1930’s. The hand-colored glass plate lantern slides were then shown to various school, club and church groups during travel lectures that Anna gave. Of special interest are photographs of various National Parks in both the United States and Canada, the Hopi Indian Reservation in Northern Arizona, Mexico and Mexico City, and “mountaineer” life in the Appalachians of Tennessee. Also included in this collection are handwritten travel notes. and holographic items related primarily to the 4th Infantry, based at Fort Vancouver. The earliest material consists of nine monthly post
returns from 1854, signed by the commanding officer, Lt. Col. Benjamin Louis Eulalie de Bonneville. These post returns list officers by name;
enlisted men by count; civil employees, their duties, and rate of pay; official communications received; also the names of anyone sick, or in
confinement for desertion. A food survey report from 1856 is concerned with rotten pork, hard bread, and moldy coffee. Later correspondence,
