unpublished works by Spanish-language writers. Some of the authors are Concha
Espina de Serna, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, Jose Maria Carretero,
Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, Gregorio Martinez Sierra, Rafael Delgado, Pedro Juan
Labarthe, Jose Lopez- Portillo y Rojas, Emilia Pardo-Bazan, Jose Echegaray and
Eduardo Zamacois. Personal material consists of correspondence and family
photographs, from marriage to Charles Fletcher Lummis, and later to Courtenay
DeKalb, with whom she operated the Roadside Mine in Arizona. Photographs and
correspondence related to the mine are present. Also included are typescripts
of Douglas' published and unpublished articles, stories, and translations.
Original drawings are by E.A. Burbank and Carl Oscar Borg. Correspondence with
friends and publishers includes writers Eugene Rhodes, Henry Knibbs, Concha
Espina, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, José María
Carretero, Pedro Labarthe, Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, and the publisher Phoebe
Hearst. Diaries and photographs document travels to Mexico and Europe. Stories
were recorded by Douglas while she lived among the Isleta Indians. Mexican and
U.S. newspapers, 1911-1915, report on the Mexican Revolution. Related material

Their eighth child, John Casey Riggs (1874-1943), was the family’s historian and creator of the bulk of the papers. The collection includes Our El Dorado, a biographical book written by John C. Riggs and his daughter, Jeanette Riggs Roll. established in 1997, that works in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
to protect, restore, and sustain the historical buildings and landscapes of the Empire
Ranch. The Empire Ranch was established in 1876 and has been a working cattle ranch
since, owned by two pioneer families: The Vails (1876-1928) and the Boices (1928-1969).
The Empire Ranch was later owned by corporations before being transfered to the Bureau
of Land Management, who enforces the preservation of the historic site. In 1997, the ERF
was established to help the BLM with preservation projects while also making sure the
site is still accessible to the general public. The materials in this collection are
from the ERF and reflect their daily operations, preservation projects, research
materials, oral histories, events, and other materials. Materials remain in the original
order as provided by the Empire Ranch Foundation upon their donation to Special

and political campaign that began in the early 1980s to provide safety for Central American
refugees fleeing civil conflicts within their home countries. This collection contains
materials related to the Sanctuary Movement and, more specifically, the highly publicized
Sanctuary Trial that took place in Arizona. Within the collection are attorney files,
certified trial transcripts, publicity materials, and trial notebooks. Also represented in
the collection are donated materials from the American Friends Service Committee and the
Southside Presbyterian Church, who were important players in the Sanctuary Movement.
Materials from these organizations include correspondence, newspaper clippings, publications
