Hispano-Americana, which offered low-cost life insurance, social activities, and other
services to primarily Mexican/Mexican-Americans living in the United States and Mexico.
Founded in Tucson in 1894, Alianza was one of the first organizations to offer life
insurance and burial policies to Mexican-American citizens. This collections includes
photographs, financial files, correspondence between lodge secretaries, convention files,
published materials, scrapbooks, and ledges pertaining to the daily operations of Alizana.
Many of the ledgers include membership enrollment information, including members, their

addition to Holme, authors of the Bandar Log Press books are Charles Dryden, William
Robinson, Kirke La Shelle, and George Ade. Holme's drawings are illustrations for news
stories, including coverage of the 1897 Luetgert trial and the 1893 World Columbian
Exposition; drawings of people, theatrical performances, "life and times" scenes of the
1890s; political events and politicians, including coverage of the 1896 Democratic

Produced by John and Barbara Martin, with the help of typographer and printer Graham Mackintosh, the Press was responsible for drawing attention to Charles Bukowski and his literary work. Each published title includes correspondence from authors, layout matter and artwork, ephemera, photographs, manuscripts, proofs, and first editions. Black Sparrow Press published a number of American and English authors including Diane Wakoski, Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Creeley, Charles Olson, John Fante, Gerard Malanga, Wanda Coleman, and acquired publication rights for Wyndham Lewis and D. H. published and unpublished manuscripts and articles, slides, photographs, and one audio tape,
primarily from 1943 to 1957, of anthropologist George C. Barker. The collection documents
Barker's anthropological research into folk drama and ritual, the social functions of
language, the Pachuco language of Hispanic youths, and Yaqui Indian culture and customs. A
1964 gift to the Southwest Folklore Archives from George C. Barker, Sr. Deaccessioned from
the collection in 1993 were approximately 0.2 feet of duplicates and items of a personal
nature. In 1996 two 11 x 14 black-and-white photographs by Alfred A. Cohn were transferred
to the L. Marguerite Collier Collection, Southwest Folklore Center Manuscripts Collection MS
611. This collection is part of the Southwest Folklore Center collection. The Southwest
Folklore Center was founded in 1979 after the dissolution of the University of Arizona
Folklore Committee and collected information about folk communities, arts, music, and other
humanities-related materials. This collection was previously SWF 004. The materials were

He created the Wartime Civil Control Administration; its mission was to evacuate and relocate people of Japanese ancestry. One portfolio of
miscellaneous reports, procedural manuals, memoranda, forms, orders, official announcements, and newspaper clippings concerning the evacuation and
relocation of Japanese Americans. Most items are from the San Francisco office of the Wartime Civil Control Administration; one report is addressed
specifically to Col. Bendetson.
