Many of these readings took place at such local venues as the Changing Hands Bookstore, the MARS Gallery, Encanto Park, and Arizona State University. A few recordings were commercially produced.

The contamination occurred in the 1980s on the southside of Tucson and residents were drinking contaminated drinking water, which was laced with TCE, a solvent best known for cleaning airplanes. Additional research files on TCE are also included in the collection.
