survey abstracts, photographs, diaries, and correspondence pertaining to
Shantz's interests in worldwide agriculture and botany. Shantz's various trips
to Africa resulted in extensive field notes, including those for the
Smithsonian African Expedition, 1919 to 1920, and the African Education
Commission, 1923 to 1924. Background material he collected about Africa
encompasses maps; postcards; dictionaries and primers on languages, including
Swahili; also, articles on the people, the areas they inhabited, and specific
problems, such as the tsetse fly, sleeping sickness, forced labor, and race
relations. Photographs of his travels from the Cape to Cairo depict the Nile,
Egyptian ruins, wild and domestic animals, vegetation and the landscape,
villages and cities, and people in tribal dress. Communal activities documented
include cultivation, thatching roofs, building a road, and weaving a large

Oral History Project, 1966-2022 ead | | | | Date(s): | 1966-2022 | | | | Abstract: | The Doris Duke Native American Oral History Project was initiated in 1967 across seven different universities. At the University of Arizona, the project was conducted through the Arizona State Museum and coordinated by Bernard “Bunny” Fontana, an anthropologist who was the museum’s Director of Ethnology at the time. The project resulted in the collection of 615 interviews, representing 33 different tribal groups. The bulk of the collection is from Apache, Navajo, Pima, Tohono O'Odham, and Yaqui consultants. Other tribes from Arizona and Mexico are also represented: including the Mohave, Hopi, Seri, Tarahumara, and Yavapai. The interviews discuss personal and family histories, along with topics such as social culture, education, folklore, health and health care, history, language, and religion. Interviews with Acoma, Apache, Chiricahua, Chemehuevi, Chontal, Dakota, Inuit, Havasupai, Hualapai, Juaneño, Maricopa, Mexican, Mormon, Muslim, Mohave, Navajo, Pima, Quechua, San Juan, Santa Clara, Seri, Spanish-American, Tarahumara, Tewa, Tohono O'Odham, Tiwa, Western Apache, Yaqui, Yavapai, and Yuman interviewees.

A press kit is a collection of publicity materials specifically sent out to members of the media to better promote a film. Included is publicity for films categorized as comedies, independents, documentaries, some re-releases, sequels, horror, action, musicals, adaptations, children's entertainment, animated, and dramas. Most contain a list of cast and crew, biographies/profiles, interviews with actors and directors, black and white publicity photographs, synopses, production notes, and announcement stories. Some have newspaper and journal articles and reviews, screening invitations, original artwork, and film critics' handwritten notes that were added by the donor.
