 Abstract:  Joseph Wood Krutch, 1893-1970, was an author, educator, and naturalist. Author of social criticism, critical biographies, and later naturalist essays; retired to Tucson in 1952 and completed several works. This collection includes typescripts, some with holograph corrections, of published manuscripts for The Desert Year, 1952, Voice of the Desert: A Naturalist's Interpretation, 1955, The Great Chain of Life, 1957, Grand Canyon: Today and All Its Yesterdays, 1958, The Forgotten Peninsula: A Naturalist in Baja California, 1961, Herbal, 1965, and the introduction for The Best Nature Writing of Joseph Wood Krutch, 1970. Typescripts of unpublished travel diaries, 1965-1967, concern trips to France, Greece, and Baja California. Also present are printers copies for Great Chain of Life, Forgotten Peninsula, and Grand Canyon; and notes and miscellaneous material related to Herbal.

 Abstract:  Arispe was the headquarters for the Comisaria-General, who was in charge of all military activities in Sonora and Sinaloa. The family traveled from central Mexico to Nogales, Sonora bringing the Movement to northern Mexico. The bulk of the material is printed materials and photographs. This collection also contains over 280 books that can be found in the University of Arizona Library catalog under the title Cristero Movement Collection. The majority of the material is in Spanish.  Abstract:  Gonzáles was a Spanish Franciscan priest at the San Diego del Pitiquito Mission, Sonora, from 1832-1839. Pérez Llera served at San Ignacio de Caburica from 1799; as Father President from 1830-1837, he presided over the disintegration of the Franciscan mission system in the Pimeria Alta; in 1841, he was back at Querétaro College as a guardian. Flores was the priest at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Opodepe Mission in 1841, when he was elected Father President by the only two priests left in Sonora. Photocopies of typed transcriptions of three letters and reports, 1839-1841, from Father Faustino Gonzáles, Father Antonio Flores, and Father José María Pérez Llera. Addressees are the Sonoran Governor Manuel María Gándara, and an unnamed Mexican Minister of War and the Navy.
