 Abstract:  The William R. Mathews papers (1870-1980) primarily documents his journalism career as editor and publisher of the Arizona Daily Star (1930-1967). The collection also includes material relating to Mathews' military service in World War I, and his role as an official war correspondent in World War II. Also included are the family papers of William R. Mathews and his wife, Betty B. Mathews.

Many of the materials are related to Chambers' work at Tucson Newspapers, Inc., Arizona Silhouettes, and El Archivo de Hidalgo del Parral.
