His groundbreaking research primarily focuses on global fire history, particularly in the US, Russia, Australia, Mexico, and Canada. It also contains correspondence and other papers related to his books, conferences, and grants, including the MacArthur Fellowship, the Fulbright Sweden, the National Humanities Center, Virginia G. Piper creative research fellowship, and the National Science Foundation.
