 Abstract:  The major portion of the collection contains instructional bulletins, lecture notes, and printed materials that were used by the Fred Harvey Company for training couriers. These bulletins demonstrate the depth of knowledge that a courier was expected to master and convey to travelers during the tours. Most of the materials relates to northern New Mexico sites. Additional materials include maps and trip logs, expenses for one of her trips, and four black and white photographs, chiefly posed group portraits of individuals in courier dress.

 Abstract:  The collection provides insights into Bill Bass's many-faceted life. The most important images are those that document the Bass Family at the Grand Canyon and in Wickenburg. In addition, there are several fine early images of the trail to Rainbow Bridge from Navajo Mountain (most taken by the El Tovar Studio), the Octave and Congress mines, and the Hassayampa River in flood. While the bulk of the images are not credited, many were probably taken by Bass or his family.

Records consist of materials from the Fred Harvey Indian Department, Grand Canyon operations, Harvey Girls, and the company public relations department. Document types include menus, brochures, statistical data, Grand Canyon Justice of the Peace and Department of Transportation records, ledgers, guest registers, press releases, articles, correspondence, art work and architectural blueprints, renderings and drawings. The collection also contains approximately 6,000 photographic images, 9 moving images, and 6 oral history interviews.
