 Abstract:  Papers, ca. 1942 – 1958, of Bea Ullrich-Zuckerman (August 26, 1907- April 30, 1987). The donor was formerly known as Beatrice Prendergast. She and her husband James Donald Prendergast met Edward Weston in New Orleans in 1941 when he was working on the Leaves of Grass project. Don Prendergast later studied photography with Weston. He and Beatrice moved to Tucson and divorced in the late 1940s, around the time that Weston and his wife Charis split up. This collection includes correspondence from both Edward and Charis Weston. Topics include the Westons’ daily activities on Wildcat Hill in Carmel, California, Weston’s sons, his health, and his professional activities in preparation for books and exhibitions along with explanations by Beatrice on references in the correspondence. Of special importance is a photocopy of a 34-page typescript manuscript describing Weston’s visit to Louisiana. The collection also includes a number of work prints and torn fragments of prints as well as negatives Weston sent to her in letters from the 1940s and 1950s.

His many accomplishments during his time in office include: establishing community colleges in Mohave and Yavapai counties, aiding in the creation of five state parks, securing funding for transportation and rural roads, and initiating legislation that helped restore the Governor’s Mansion at the Sharlot Hall Museum. He served as the Vice Chairman, and then the Chairman, of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Chairman of the Joint Budget Committee, and Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee. This collection includes newspaper articles, genealogical information, Senator Tenney’s scrapbooks of news clippings from 1965, the meeting minutes from the 1973, San Carlos Apache Mineral Strip hearing, photographs, and campaign memorabilia.

 Abstract:  Holograph letter written to Harvey Whitehill, Sheriff of Grant Co., New Mexico, dated March 26, 1900. It was sent from Tiernan's office in Galveston, Texas. The letter recounts his 1880 arrival in the Territory of New Mexico and his first meeting with Sheriff Whitehill. It also relates their encounter with Victorio's band of Apaches on Copper Creek, northwest of Silver City, and their subsequent rescue by the 6th Cavalry regiment under Captain Madden, and the 9th regiment under Colonel Hatch.

 Abstract:  Black Sparrow Press was a small independent publishing house focused on avant-garde literature. Produced by John and Barbara Martin, with the help of typographer and printer Graham Mackintosh, the Press was responsible for drawing attention to Charles Bukowski and his literary work. Each published title includes correspondence from authors, layout matter and artwork, ephemera, photographs, manuscripts, proofs, and first editions. Black Sparrow Press published a number of American and English authors including Diane Wakoski, Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Creeley, Charles Olson, John Fante, Gerard Malanga, Wanda Coleman, and acquired publication rights for Wyndham Lewis and D. H. Lawrence.
