Of particular interest are research materials documenting adolescent suicide and annotated audiotape transcripts discussing the 1987 Bergenfield, New Jersey cluster of teenage suicides that Kahn used to prepare her documentary coverage on that subject for Nightline (aired 1988). The collection also contains briefing notebooks on newsworthy topics of worldwide significance prepared for ABC News staff (1979-1990) and samples of worldwide staff assignments (1991).

Official handwritten copy, dated the 6th of January, 1754, of a petition by the procurador general of the town council of Mizque to the Viceroy of Peru, on behalf of the Yanaconas Indians. It protests the practice of the corregidor, the chief magistrate of the province, of charging an annual tax of seven pesos per head rather than the three pesos and one real stipulated by the Viceroy.

The Junta de Fomento de Californias was established to colonize California, and establish Monterey as a commercial capital to dominate Pacific trade. Twelve-page manuscript copy of original document in secretarial hand, dated May 30, 1825, with 12 signatures listed. This plan provided for Mexican colonization and social integration of the two Californias.

 Abstract:  The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, grant proposals, reports, photographs, subject files, field notes, pollen samples and data relating to desert ecology which document Paul Sear's career as a botanist, ecologist and educator. The bulk of the collection is comprised of correspondence between Sears and other researchers. Ecology was the central interest of Paul B. Sears' professional life. Understanding an ecosystem includes understanding its history. Sears used pollen analysis data of bog sediments as a tool, as a means to reconstruct past vegetation and to infer climate which is included in this collection.

 Abstract:  The Paul M. Roca Papers and Photographs contains materials which document Jesuit churches throughout the Northern Mexico states of Sonora and Chihuahua. The collection consists of two series, Photographs and Papers. The first series, Photographs (1887-1965, bulk 1955-1965) consists of 156 photographs featured in Paths of the Padres through Sonora: An Illustrated History & Guide to Its Spanish Churches published by the Arizona Pioneers’ Historical Society in 1967 with accompanying maps. The second series, Papers (1977), contains 4 manuscript versions of Spanish Jesuit Churches in Mexico’s Tarahumara published by the University of Arizona Press in 1979. A selection of Roca’s images have been posted on History Pin: Paul Roca Photographs of Missions in Sonora, Mexico.
